Knights of Columbus Meeting Minutes from April 4, 2005 Our
Deputy Grand Knight, Mickey Lacombe opened the meeting at 7:40 PM with a prayer,
the Our Father followed by a moment of silence for the passing of Pope John Paul
II (the Great). Chaplain’s
Report:
Msgr. Swenson said the prayer service for the Pope attracted about 160 mourners.
He thanked us for helping at the Holy Thursday services and for our altar
servers Climb-Max party. He gave a
report on SCS school registration. He
told us that Operation Homestretch has garnered $100K in new pledges and has
identified 57 new families in the lower grades of school.
The building fund is collecting $7,500 a month ($90K per year) to pay off
debt. Msgr. also reminded us about
our pledge. He said the plaque
would be moved to a better spot. Membership:
George Comeaux asked Msgr. Swenson about speaking at the May 1st
weekend masses for a membership drive. We’ll
also have a membership crawfish boil on May 14th. Treasurer’s
Report:
We have $7,737.21 in our checking account.
19 Brother Knights have contributed $832.24 into our 2005 portion of the
Chapel Fund. The total so far
collected is $5,560.61. As of
3-31-05, the St. Patrick’s booth profit is at $1,279.42.
It may go up or down. Financial
Secretary:
Jerry Madere reported on a number of income receipts and expenditures. Right
To Life:
Bob Borne said that they will be picketing the Ridgelake Butcher Shop on
4-9-05. Youth:
Paul Bates said the CYLA award winner, Katelyn LeBlanc will be recognized
at the 9 o’clock Mass on Mother’s Day.
Paul said the essay contest deadline is this Friday.
For Camp Abbey we were allocated 9 boys and 6 girls. They added an extra
week for girls. Grand
Knight’s Report:
Mickey said we need a nominations committee.
Bob Farmer, Dennis Couvilion, & John Chryssoverges
will join the Grand Knight, Ric Rodriguez on that committee.
Dennis Couvilion gave Jerry Madere a sample letter to help the non-paying
members problem. We had a lively
discussion on this topic. It became apparent that we need a retention committee.
The idea of putting together a Fishing Rodeo was introduced, as was an
egg knocking fundraiser. New
Business:
Tony Maurin reported that our Pope Chart is now set up in the church.
Ken Krey said that Habitat for Humanity is expanding into Jefferson
Parish, District
Deputy:
Joe Welch announced upcoming dates.
State convention is at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner on April 28th
through May 1st. Meeting ended at
8:38 PM with prayers for the Good of our Order.
We prayed for our Charter Member Brother Carl Helmer who was in an auto
accident and for his wife who had a heart attack, Former District Deputy Walter
Laderer with double pneumonia, Fr. Gabriel for his prostate cancer, and for Fr.
