Knights of Columbus Meeting Minutes from May 2, 2005

Our Grand Knight, Ric Rodriguez opened the meeting at 7:43 PM with a

prayer, the Our Father.

Chaplain’s Report: Deputy Chaplain Charley Favret said the bells are fine,

but the things that ring the bells are shot. The bell tower was struck by

lightening in January. The range of pricing options to fix the bells is

from $8,000 to $18,000. There is a donor for $7,500. We were asked by

Msgr. Swenson to clean eggs off the Metairie Road doors.

Membership: George Comeaux reported about speaking at the May 1st weekend

masses for a membership drive. He netted three transfers and three new

recruits. A motion was made seconded and approved to accept these new

candidates. The previously discussed membership recruitment crawfish boil

for May 14th was cancelled due to scheduling conflicts among members.

Treasurer’s Report: We have $7,476.68 in our checking account. 20 Brother

Knights have contributed $922.24 into our 2005 portion of the Chapel Fund.

Financial Secretary: Jerry Madere reported on a number of income receipts

and expenditures.

Right To Life: We viewed a film from Supreme about ways to promote the

Right To Life message in the community. Bob Borne announced picketing at

the Ridgelake Butcher Shop on 5-7-05.

Youth: Paul Bates said the CYLA award winner, Caitlin LeBlanc will be

recognized at the 9 o’clock Communion Mass on Mother’s Day. Paul said the

essay contest deadline was extended. For Camp Abbey there are still spots

available on a first come basis.

Deputy Grand Knight’s Report: The fishing tourney will be the weekend

following the SCS Fair. The poker tourney idea has been scrapped. We will

have a Super Knight Party this winter.

Grand Knight’s Report: Ric Rodriguez announced the nominations for the

June meeting: Mickey Lacombe – Grand Knight; Paul Bates – Deputy Grand

Knight; Advocate – George Comeaux; Inside Guard - Joe Chryssoverges;

Outside Guard - John Chryssoverges; Financial Secretary – Jerry Madere;

Treasurer – Ron Altobello; Recorder – Jim Gedicke; Trustees - Bob Farmer,

Bill Walker & Ric Rodriguez; with no confirmed nominees for Chancellor and

Warden.

Blue Mass: The date for our next Blue Mass will be June 12th. Fund

raising is working well. Ken Krey has sent letters to elected officials.

Tony Maurin has been in communication with the Sheriff’s office, the Fire

Dept., and the Old Metairie Road Business Association. Every group is

excited. This should top our previously well-attended Blue Masses.

New Business: Ric unveiled the Knights wall display, created and donated

by Sal D’Antoni. It was very much appreciated and admired by the Knights

in attendence.

District Deputy: Joe Welch announced upcoming dates. There will be a 4th

Degree in Slidell on June 5th. 2nd & 3rd Degrees in Arabi on June 12th and

in Bogalusa on August 20th.

Meeting ended at 9:04 PM with prayers for the Good of our Order. We prayed

for our Charter Member Brother Carl Helmer who was in an auto accident and

for his wife who had a heart attack; Former District Deputy Walter Laderer

with double pneumonia; Fr. Gabriel for his prostate cancer; Fr. Kinney; a

coworker of Jim Gedicke, Patti Barbot, a stroke victim; and Pope Benedict.
